John Dwyer retired 11 years ago as Assistant Chief Constable of the Cheshire Constabulary. His 30 years of police service saw him serve in Nottinghamshire and the West Midlands before he arrived in Cheshire in 1994. He has a full understanding of how the police service operates and the constraints it experiences.
Since retirement John has set up and runs several of his own businesses including a corporate security consultancy and investigation company.
He was a Councillor on the Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council, before its move into the Cheshire East Council, and for 3 years held the cabinet portfolio for Safer Communities on that council. He has a full understanding of how the public feel about their safety.
The post of Police and Crime Commissioner brings together John’s skill set.
He is a graduate of the Trent Business School in Nottingham and is a married man. He lives in the Cheshire village of Hatherton with his wife Zena. Their daughter, Nicola, is in the Army’s Corps of Music being a professional musician in The Band and Bugles of The Rifles.
His interests are golf - although he plays badly! - reading and gardening.
